Producing More with Less

Climate Smart Agriculture in Paraguay

Paraguay
2019 to 2021

About the Initiative

In Paraguay, more than 250,000 rural families rely on agriculture, yet they face challenges such as deforestation, water pollution, and climate variability. To strengthen sustainable production, we promote digital technologies that optimize resource use and enhance the resilience of the agricultural sector.

With the support of BID Lab and SupPlant, we researched and adapted smart irrigation technologies for labor- and water-intensive crops. Through tools like GBI and CulTI, producers can receive daily irrigation recommendations on their mobile phones, without the need to install expensive equipment. This allows for efficient water use, protects soil, and improves productivity without compromising biodiversity.

Our commitment to innovation aims to create positive impacts in three key areas: first, increased productivity by ensuring better food production and higher incomes for small producers; second, greater resilience by reducing vulnerability to droughts, pests, and climate change; and finally, lower resource use and emissions by optimizing water consumption and reducing the environmental footprint of agricultural production.

Through this approach, we contribute to more efficient, sustainable agriculture aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, promoting responsible consumption and strengthening food security in Paraguay.
