Financial Health for All People

Colombia
2023 to 2025

About the Initiative

Everyone, regardless of their origin, has the right to build a life with Financial Health. To make this possible, it is essential to promote the financial inclusion and education of migrants, returnees, and members of host communities. This means ensuring that access to financial products and services meets the real needs of individuals and is adapted to local contexts, working in partnership with the State and the financial ecosystem.

Parche Financiero is an initiative led by Banca de las Oportunidades and the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group, and implemented in partnership with Voices Of Venezuela and Humanity & Inclusion, which recognizes and values the active role of migrants in building their future. Based on the efforts made in response to their immediate needs, the initiative supports each individual on their path to new opportunities, offering tools and options that enhance their abilities and contribute to the well-being of hundreds of families in Colombia. Additionally, Parche Financiero also supports the financial sector, providing technical assistance and raising awareness among officials, aiming to ensure that the offer of financial products and services effectively reaches these migrant individuals.

Colombia is the main destination for Venezuelan refugees and migrants, who face situations of greater vulnerability compared to the local population. These differences are particularly reflected in access to financial products. In 2023, while 92.3% of Colombian citizens had access to at least one financial product, only 27.6% of Venezuelan migrants had one. Furthermore, gender inequalities are observed: 31.6% of male migrants have access to financial products compared to 23.7% of women.
