Digitalization of MSEs in Colombia, Mexico and Peru

Colombia, Mexico and Peru
2020 to 2023

About the Initiative

Micro and small enterprises (MSEs) account for 90% of all productive units in Latin America and generate three-quarters of the region’s employment. However, they face persistent challenges such as low productivity, limited access to financing, and low adoption of digital tools.

DigitAll was launched in 2020 as a response to these challenges and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. With support from the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, we partnered with Aliança Emprendedora to drive the digital transformation of MSEs in Colombia, Mexico, and Peru. Our goal was to strengthen their digital capabilities, facilitate access to financial services, and improve productivity through accessible and tailored digital tools.

Throughout its implementation, DigitAll enabled more than 50,000 entrepreneurs to strengthen their businesses through digitalization. As a result, participants experienced increased productivity, reflected in higher sales and reduced operating costs. The program also improved financial inclusion by facilitating access to credit, savings accounts, and digital payment methods. Additionally, it encouraged more entrepreneurs to adopt financial planning practices, enhancing the long-term sustainability of their businesses. By documenting and sharing lessons learned, DigitAll laid the groundwork for scaling digitalization across the region, generating impact beyond its direct participants.
