BIOFINCAS

Biodiversity Commitment

República Dominicana, Guatemala y México
2023 to 2031

About the Initiative

Let us imagine a future in which sustainable, biodiversity-rich agriculture is the norm, not the exception. Its effectiveness in addressing climate change is indisputable, but how can we bring these practices to all sectors? BIOFINCAS arises to answer this question, with the goal of building a more just and climate-resilient future.

BIOFINCAS will collaborate with small and medium coffee, cacao, and banana producers, promoting agricultural practices that respect biodiversity and adapt to climate change, while also ensuring an equitable distribution of risks across value chains. During implementation, we will focus on directly supporting participants by providing tools that strengthen their livelihoods and facilitating their access to financial solutions that promote a fair distribution of risks.

The initiative aims for producers to actively participate in improving their practices. Through strategic partnerships with cooperatives, insurance companies, and financial institutions, we will facilitate access to financing that will allow them to optimize their processes, ensuring a more sustainable future for their families and communities. These actions will be coordinated with key stakeholders in the agricultural sector, insurance companies, financial institutions, and policymakers, under the principle of shared responsibility.
