CO- CREATING INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR THE FINANCIAL INCLUSION OF YOUNG RURAL WOMEN

The project “Promoting the Financial Inclusion of Young Rural Women”, financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), continues its path. On October 11th we carried out a co-creation workshop with the objective of designing a financial education strategy to bring financial services closer to young rural women, and to adequate the existing products to their specific needs.

During this session we shared our diagnostic in the field with members of ASOMBURI (Association of Women from Briceño, Antioquia) and ORJUDEC (Youth Organization for the Communitary Development of Buenos Aires, Cauca), public workers from the Agency for the Renovation of the Territory (ART), representatives of Bancolombia and Bancamía, and Nini Collazos, Councillor and member of the round table of youth and gender of San Vicente del Caguán.

The event offered a space for exchange among the private, public and social sector to define together a sustainable financial inclusion strategy, which will combine a financial education tool and an incentives plan that allow these rural young women to improve their quality of life thanks to access and use of financial services that fit their needs and strengths.

With the purpose of ensuring a high level of proximity between the project and the target population, associations of women in the territories will be key players in the implementation of the strategy, and will be supported by the ART and the financial entities involved.

For the co-creating session, we used a methodology of Human-centered design, and we developed a double training proposal, considering gender focused education for rural young women and training in customer care for correspondents and financial advisers, who are the representatives of the financial institutions closer to the target population. We also considered the need of gathering evidence about the economic cycles of the woman, to be able to offer products that meet their needs.

The objective of the project “Promoting the Financial Inclusion of Young Rural Women” is to empower young rural women in post conflict territories, where new international and gubernamental programs are being developed to provide these women with new opportunities for development. At Fundación Capital, and with the support of our partners, we want to help these women to better manage their resources, so that they can save, reach their goals, improve the economy of their households and strengthen their role within it.
